Northfleet hosted the Home Counties League match against Oxfordshire on Saturday.
This match was one that we needed to win because Oxforshire were one of the only teams who were in a position to catch us
in the league.
The match was hard fought throughout, with Oxfordshire clearly being aware of the need
to win in order to close the gap in the league. At 15 ends we had 2 rinks well down and overall we were 6 shots down on the
match. One of the rinks that was well down rallied strongly in the last 6 ends, and rinks which were up held on to their advantage.
Thus we ended 8 shots up overall, and picked up 16 points to Oxfordshire’s 6.
This was a truly magnificent performance, and whilst it is still mathematically possible
for us to be caught, we go into the Middlesex match on 31st July in a very strong position.
I would like to give thanks to Andy Rook and Barry Bond who dropped into the team at
very short notice, and to Mick Fisher who turned up on the day and came into the team at 10 minutes notice.
