On Saturday, Kent played the Middleton Cup quarter final
against a good Oxfordshire side, which had qualified from a strong group, without losing a match.
The Kent side started strongly from
the very first end, and by the 5 end mark were already 24 shots ahead. The entire side were focussed and aggressive, and continued
to pressure Oxfordshire throughout the 21 ends. We ran out winners by 32 shots and won on 5 of the 6 rinks, with the 6th
rink making a draw. This was the best Kent performance I have seen since becoming a selector 7 years ago.
Across all rinks, there were many impressive
performances, and to win, at this level, by this margin, was an outstanding performance. We now go into the semi final at
Worthing, having only lost on 4 rinks out of 24 starts, and with the heaviest defeat being by only 2 shots.
If we can take this level of performance,
energy, and team spirit down to Worthing, then it will take a very good side indeed to stop us. We will be taking an unchanged
squad down to Worthing.
Once again I would like to thank all
four reserves for supporting the team, and once again Alan Morton did an excellent job in maintaining the leader board over
the last quarter of the match.
