Bowls England is delighted to announce that Ditton BC in Kent has today
been named as the 2011 ‘Club of the Year'.
They beat off stiff opposition from Clarence BC in Weston-Super-Mare,
Somerset, to win the prestigious competition that is generously sponsored by Drakes Pride. Highcliffe BC, Hampshire, was placed
third in the competition.
The award proved to be ‘third
time lucky’ for the club, which had been highly-commended in the competition for the last two years and has continued
its efforts to promote the club and recruit new members to the sport of bowls.
Ditton BC was also one of the first outdoor bowls clubs in England to
achieve Clubmark accreditation from Sport England, which is recognition of the club’s commitment to developing a high
quality and welcoming environment for young people to take up sport.
Clarence BC also produced an exceptionally strong entry demonstrating
the considerable efforts they had made with an extensive recruitment campaign over the past 12 months.
Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted
to announce Ditton BC in Kent as winners of the 2011 Club of the Year title. All three of finalists were once again of an
exceptionally high standard, but Ditton BC proved that the old adage of ‘if at first you don’t succeed try, try
and try again’ still holds true. I would like to congratulate all those clubs who reached the final stages and thank
Drakes Pride for their continuing support of this competition, which really does highlight the great work that is going on
in clubs across the country to support our sport."
As winners, Ditton BC will receive:
- Six sets of Drakes Pride Bowls
- The Tony Allcock Trophy (to be kept for one year)
- Two free tickets to the Bowls England Men's Annual Dinner and Presentation
of Prizes
- Bowls England Pennant and Club of the Year Flag
- Framed Certificate
- A badge for each club member
- A match against the Bowls England Presidential Team
As runners-up, Clarence BC will receive:
- Four sets of Drakes Pride Bowls
- The D'Arcy Drayton Cup (to be kept for one year)
- Two free tickets to the Bowls England Annual Dinner and Presentation
of Prizes
- Framed Certificate
- A match against the Friends of English Bowling

OUR CENTENARY YEAR 2011
The late Dick Snell was for some time the Secretary of
the Benevolent Fund, and Secretary of the Patrons. He volunteered to write a history of the KCBA for the centenary, and spent
countless hours researching the minutes and other documents in order to write the history which appears on this website. A
précis of this work appears in the 2011 year book, and we are indebted to Dick for his efforts.

I really would like to see this site develop and become your first stop, for
up to date news and events from around the County. The site is only as good as the content I put on it, what I put on
it, is only what I am sent. Therefore to bring the site alive I need input, any news, photos, bowls anecdotes or anything
you feel would be relevant to other bowlers in Kent, can be sent via the Contact Us page. I would rather have the same News and Results sent to me a hundred times rather than not
receive them at all. I look forward to your input. R.T.

From Peter Wilks, President, Met Police (Hayes) BC
The attached photo shows
myself and Club Captain Jerry Sullivan presenting a cheque for £3,151 to Ann Baldwin fron The Childrens Trust at Tadworth
(photo can be viewed in larger size by clicking on it). This is a centre for treating children who have suffered brain trauma
and this charity was chosen following a serious road traffic accident involving the daughter of one of our members and Middleton
Cup player, Steve Savage.
The money was raised through a prize draw and a colection
on my Presidents Day.
Hope this will be of use as a bit of publicity for the Club
and The Childrens Trust and as a way of thanking all those from the bowls world who helped.

The Kent Past Presidents association embarked on a tour for a week in Devon starting on 11th September.
The tour was based in a very pleasant hotel in Barnstaple and during the week the men played 6 matches against a variety of
clubs and county associations, and the travelling ladies also had 3 matches during the week.
As you can imagine the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, and everyone had a very good time. The only disappointment
during the tour was the fact that our Chairman Brian and his wife Carole were unable to attend due to Brian's current illness. Let us hope that he now begins to make a good recovery.
